The W.C. Miller Aces jumped to an early lead in league play with a 4-0 start this year.
After kicking off the season with a win over the Carman Cougars, the Aces handed the Pembina Tigers a 4-2 loss on Oct. 28, beat the MCI Blues 10-1 on Oct. 30, and defeated the Morden Thunder 4-3 in overtime on Halloween night.
The Morden game definitely gave the Aces quite a scare. After taking a 3-0 lead to the midpoint of the second period, they watched as Morden scored three unanswered goals. However an unassisted Norman Friesen goal in overtime would give the Aces the win.
The game against MCI in Altona was different. The first period saw a strong battle with heavy hitting and plenty of shots. In fact as that period came to an end, Altona was hanging on to a 2-1 lead.
That changed in the second and the third. The tiring Blues allowed the Aces to score five in the second and three more in the third to earn the lopsided win.
The W. C. Miller Aces have also named their captains. This year Daniel Heinrichs and Dallas Klassen will share the duties of wearing the "C". Derek Klassen and Joey Braun will be assistant captains.
The W.C. Miller Aces will host the PCI Trojans Nov. 6 and take on the Mountain Mustangs on Nov. 11.
Elsewhere in the league, Morris is also one of only three unbeaten teams.
They knocked off the PCI Trojans 8-0 to start their season and followed that up with a 5-4 victory over the Mountain Mustangs.
Their next action takes place Nov. 6 as they host the winless Carman Cougars as part of the annual Twister Headshave festivities.
The MCI Blues were scheduled to host the GVC Zodiacs Nov. 4 and will take on the Morden Thunder on Nov. 11.
The W.C. Miller Aces, GVC Zodiacs and Morris Mavericks remain unbeaten, although it's still early in the season.
On the other side of the equation, the PCI Trojans, Mountain Mustangs, MCI Blues and Carman Cougars are still searching for their first win. The Morden Thunder and the Pembina Tigers are the only teams that have experienced both wins and losses.
