DEKALB/thecurler.com - David Hamblin checks out a shot while Allan Gitzel looks on.

DEKALB Super League leader Allan Gitzel was finally handed his first loss on Nov. 12, dropping a 6-3 decision to fellow Morris skip David Hamblin.

Both Gitzel and Hamblin went 1-1 on the day, leaving only the Ryan Hyde rink from Portage with an unbeaten 5-0 record.

After Brian Pallister's rink earned their first win of the season with an 8-0 shutout in five ends over fellow Portage competitor Tom Hyde, only two rinks are looking for their victory. Tom Hyde and Carman's Rob Findlay have yet to finish in the win column.

Morris rink Allan Gitzel began the day in La Salle with a 5-1 victory over Tom Hyde. Tied at one going into the fourth, Gitzel earned four consecutive unanswered singles to win.

Meanwhile David Hamblin was dropping his first game 7-4 to La Salle's Randy Neufeld.

Neufeld kicked things off with a double, and Hamblin answered back with one. Again Neufeld counted two and Hamblin added a single. Up by two going into the fifth, Neufeld scored one and this time it was Hamblin who would make it more interesting by adding a pair to make it 5-4. However another double by Neufeld gave him the victory. In the second draw of the evening, Gitzel and Hamblin met in an all Morris rivalry. Hamblin got the early 1-0 lead but Gitzel scored two in the second end to take over. It wasn't until the fourth that Hamblin added three to take control. Gitzel managed one more, but with Hamblin adding two in the sixth, the game was finished with David Hamblin winning 6-3.

Ryan Hyde's 5-0 record gives him sole possession of first place. With 4-1 records, Allan Gitzel, La Salle's Randy Neufeld and Don Spriggs of Portage are tied for second.

Morden's Rob Fleming and David Hamblin of Morris boast 3-2 records for next on the list. Sitting at 1-4 is Carman's Bob Bartley and Brian Pallister of Portage.

Curlers will see a break in the action with the next two draws taking place in Carman on Dec. 3.
