Whether you're looking for a fresh way to surprise your spouse, a present that will satisfy your globally-minded teen, a classy thank you for an inspiring teacher, or a great gift to give as a group, finding the perfect way to share this season may be easier than you think. The Ten Thousand Villages' Living Gift program offers Canadians the opportunity to give meaningful gifts while inspiring conversations that will continue well into the new year. Six special projects make up the 2009 Living Gift selection, including specific items like seeds as well as lasting services like classroom support. Prices range from $20 to $398.

"Unique meaningful presents are hard to find. At Ten Thousand Villages, we're offering creative gifts that also help reduce the effects of poverty. Each purchase makes a considerable difference, whether you spend $25 or $250," says Doreen Sawatzky, manager of Altona's Ten Thousand Villages store in the Altona Mall.

With every Living Gift, friends and family receive a detailed description of the present chosen for them while the actual gift goes to the people who need it most.

In 2008, $841,426 was raised, supporting children and families around the world.

As a non-profit, Fair Trade organization, Ten Thousand Villages provides vital income to people in the developing world by marketing their handicrafts and telling their stories in North America.

Each Living Gift sold will help Ten Thousand Villages' parent organization, Mennonite Central Committee, carry out important relief and development work.
