The first white child born in the west, came into this world at Fort Daer, (now Pembina, North Dakota, near Emerson).
Reine Lagimodiere was born there, Jan. 6, 1807.
Her father Jean-Baptiste Lagimodiere was a fur trader and grandfather of Metis leader Louis Riel.
